About Gregor
Showing at Sustain the month of October - Opening Friday, October 1st
Gregor has been painting since 1968. He won his first juried show in 1974. His education culminated when he graduated from the University of Virginia in 1988. In order to support his art, he worked in the accounting office of a general contractor in the Washington, D.C. area, and then for a defense contractor for four years. He then became art director for a start up website design company and soon realized that computers and corporate life did not satisfy his artistic instincts. He moved back to Charlottesville, Virginia  in 1998 where he designed and built houses and renovations while pursuing his passion for art and design.

Combining his love of nature and art, he would drive off road to paint en plein the surrounding area of his home in Sugar Hollow adjacent to the Shenandoah National Park. He is always looking for a beautiful spot to paint, usually trying to capture the feeling of a particular atmospheric condition. "When I look at one of my paintings, I want to remember the feeling I had when I was looking at the natural scene. I want those who look at my paintings to feel the same. I'm striving to evoke an emotion brought about by nature. The original scene cannot be described in words."

Presently, Gregor maintains a studio in Charlottesville. Owing to his love of nature, he continues to paint landscapes in the Western Albemarle area and also seascapes in the Chesapeake Bay area, where he lives part time, although a beautiful place is always on his agenda.
